Why I went to college:
I never considered college to be optional. From a young age I knew what I wanted my career to look like and after high school; college was simply "the next step". However, when I arrived, I discovered the experience embodied more than just a box I would have to check off, it was the beginning of a journey to academic and personal discovery. I learned more about myself and the rest of the world in my four years at WSU than I had in the previous eighteen years of my life. In college I had the opportunity to meet new people and try new things: it is a chance to be whoever you want to be.
Why I chose to be a College & Career Guide:
I chose to be a College & Career Guide because I wanted to be a positive influence on the future of the State of Alaska. I have a lot to offer students in the way of experience, guidance, and a listening ear. Like majority of the students I will be working with, I know what it is like to grow up and be a student here. Our experience is unlike any other. There is something to be said for someone who has hiked to the top of a mountain, touched a glacier, or seen a full grown moose crossing the street. I have so much to learn from these students and hopefully they will learn a thing or two from me. I am only one version of the future that these students could have, and hopefully, in my time as a College & Career Guide, I can help them find theirs.
