How Do I Get Access?

Student and Parents

If you are a student, you should initially log in through your school's account.

Why?

  • If you are logged in through the correct school, your teachers and counselors can post important messages and reminders to your portfolio.
  • You can have access to class lists and custom activity checklists uploaded by your teachers. This helps you plan your courses more effectively, and complete college and career preparation on time.
  • Your school administrators can help you if you forget your personal username or password.

When will I get a personal username and password?

  • After you log in to AKCIS for the first time under your school's account, you should immediately create a Portfolio. View the Portfolio QuickStart for step by step instructions.
  • When you create your own portfolio, you will create a personal username and password. In the future, you should always use this new username and password to directly log into your AKCIS portfolio.
  • A Portfolio account will allow you to save school and occupation information, assessment results, courses, resume information and more.

How do I log in under my school or agency?

  • Contact your school, and ask a teacher or staff member to give you the username and password for your school's AKCIS account. Log in using the username and password provided to you.

What if my school does not have an AKCIS account?

  • If you are not enrolled in a school with an active AKCIS account, or if you are working with another agency for career and education planning assistance, you can still become an AKCIS user. Simply click on the Zip Code tab just above the login menu on the homepage.  Then select your town, and enter your zip code to get access.

What if I change schools or graduate and still want to use AKCIS?

  • Easy! Just transfer your portfolio to your new school’s account, or the account for your local job center or other community organization.

If you are unsure whether your school is registered as an AKCIS site, you can check the list of current AKCIS sites. If you are still not sure, ask a teacher or school counselor. If they are not a registered AKCIS site, contact akcis@alaska.gov so that AKCIS staff can discuss the benefits of becoming a registered AKCIS site with your school’s staff.

Job Seekers

If you are a job seeker, you should log in through the local Job Center, community organization, or other agency you are  working with.

Why?

  • If logged in through the correct Job Center, your career counselor can send you important messages and reminders through your portfolio.
  • Logging in under your registered site allows you access to special features connected with that specific site, including custom activity checklists created by that site.
  • Your site administrators can help you, should you forget your personal username and password.

When will I get a personal username and password?

  • After you log in to AKCIS for the first time through the appropriate site, you should immediately create a Portfolio.
  • When you create your own portfolio, you will create a personal username and password. In the future, you should always use this new username and password to directly log in to your AKCIS portfolio.
  • This portfolio will allow you to save occupational information, assessment results, personal files, self-reflections, and resume information.

How do I log in under my Job Center or community organization?

  • Ask the staff at that location to give you the username and password for their AKCIS account; to use the first time you log in.

What if I am not working with a Job Center or other agency?

  • If you are not working with a Job Center or other agency in your community, you can still use AKCIS. Simply click on the Zip Code tab above the login menu on the homepage. Then select your town and enter your zip code to gain access.

If you are unsure whether your Job Center or agency is registered as an AKCIS site, you can check the list of current AKCIS sites. If you are still not sure, ask a counselor or staff member. If they are not a registered AKCIS site, contact akcis@alaska.gov so that AKCIS staff can discuss the benefits of becoming a registered AKCIS site with the staff.
