Personal Biography:

Why I went to college:

I wanted to go to college because I knew it would afford me more options in the future. I always had a desire to pursue some form of higher education, but I never thought I would get a Master's Degree in my lifetime. When I was close to finishing my undergraduate degree I realized that if I wanted to accomplish the goals that I had for my personal and professional life I would have to continue my education. My life has greatly benefited from the education I have received and I would never trade that experience and training for anything else. At College I made lifelong friends and I not only benefited professionally from college, but also personally. The experience has helped me grow as a person in multiple ways and the future always seems bright with the foundation formed in my life at college.

Why I chose to be a College & Career Guide:

As a certified teacher and a lifelong Alaskan I have always been involved with youth in the Anchorage area. From volunteering at my church, to helping coach basketball and spending time with high school students at summer camps, I have always enjoyed being around young people and seeing them grow as people and as citizens in the larger community of Anchorage. Naturally, when this position opened up I knew that I wanted to be a part of what was happening through ACPE in the Anchorage School District. My hope as a College and Career Guide is to see students from different ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds reach their dreams and goals through some form of higher education. Throughout these next two years I hope that I can help bridge the gap between where students are today in their education and to where they want to go in the future.
