Alaska offers both a merit-based scholarship program and a need-based grant program for eligible Alaska students attending participating postsecondary educational institutions in Alaska.

Alaska Education Loans

ACPE provides low-cost education loans to Alaska’s students and their parents or family members. These loans are intended to supplement the Federal Direct Loan Program when subsidized federal and gift aid does not cover the cost of attendance.

ACPE also provides career-specific loans to help individuals gain the education to work in professions with a shortage of qualified professionals in Alaska or regions of Alaska.

The U.S. Department of Education uses the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to evaluate a family’s eligibility for federal student financial aid programs such as the Pell Grant, Work-Study, and federal student loans.
