ACPE Releases 2026 Alaska Higher Education Almanac

The Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education (ACPE) is pleased to announce the release of the 2026 Alaska Higher Education Almanac. In its ninth year, the Almanac provides Alaska’s education stakeholders and policymakers relevant, meaningful data to inform and enhance educational and workforce opportunities.

ACPE Partners with Hays Research Group to Conduct a Statewide FAFSA Survey

The Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education (ACPE) has partnered with Hays Research Group LLC to conduct a statewide survey of Alaska residents aged 18 to 55 regarding their experiences with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The purpose of this survey is to better understand patterns of FAFSA completion, identify common challenges and barriers, and inform future statewide policies and programs to increase FAFSA completion rates and postsecondary enrollment in Alaska. 2026 ALASKA PERFORMANCE SCHOLARSHIP OUTCOMES REPORT PUBLISHED

Juneau – The Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education (ACPE) announced the release of the 2026 Alaska Performance Scholarship (APS) Outcomes Report. The APS Outcomes Report delivers education stakeholders and policy-makers relevant eligibility and usage trends since program inception.

Administrative Order 360

On August 4, 2025, Governor Mike Dunleavy issued Administrative Order 360 to improve the quality, transparency, and efficiency of Alaska’s regulatory environment by requiring a 25 percent reduction in regulatory burdens by 2027. The Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education (ACPE) is pleased to announce the release of the 2025 Alaska Higher Education Almanac. In its eighth year of publication, the Almanac offers higher education stakeholders and policymakers meaningful, curated content and data to develop, enhance, and guide educational and workforce opportunities.

APS and AEG Funding for 2025-26 Academic Year

ACPE is pleased to report that full funding for the Alaska Performance Scholarship (APS) and Alaska Education Grant (AEG), through the Higher Education Investment Fund (HEIF), was included in the budget passed on May 20, 2025 for the upcoming 2025-26 academic year. While it is still unknown if it will be necessary for the State to utilize the HEIF to cover a portion of the FY25 supplemental budget, funding for APS and AEG to eligible students for the upcoming 2025-26 academic year is secure. ACPE stands ready to collaborate with the State of Alaska, University of Alaska, and postsecondary institutions and training providers across Alaska to honor our commitment to education funding solutions for Alaska’s students. As a reminder, to receive APS and AEG, a student must complete the FAFSA and include a participating Alaska institution or training provider. APS eligible students attending a non-Title IV institution/training provider, must complete the Alternative APS Application found in the Alaska Student Aid Portal. For FAFSA completion assistance, visit acpe.alaska.gov.alaskafafsacompletion. ACPE will provide regular updates about the ongoing budget situation on acpe.alaska.gov.

ACPE Appoints Kerry Thomas as Executive Director

Juneau, Alaska – The Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education (ACPE) appointed Kerry Thomas as Executive Director. Thomas will also serve as the Executive Officer for the Alaska Student Loan Corporation (ASLC).
